Durban, South Africa – May 13, 2025 — South Africa is taking a firm multilateral stance to position tourism as a powerful driver of economic development and regional integration across the African continent. Speaking at the opening of Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025 in Durban, His Excellency Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile, Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, emphasized the country’s commitment to collaborative growth.

“Tourism has the power to unify, uplift and transform economies across Africa. South Africa believes in a multilateral approach to unlock this potential—working with our partners across the continent to create shared prosperity,” Deputy President Mashatile stated.

He called on African governments, private sector actors, and development partners to align policies, invest in infrastructure, and promote regional travel to harness the continent’s full tourism potential. The Deputy President reaffirmed that inclusive growth, youth employment, and sustainable development are all achievable through a coordinated continental tourism strategy.
